Design firm Spokes Design is taking a look at which cities have one of the best and most exciting design environments in the country.
The firm says cities such as Portland, Oregon, and Denver, Colorado, are leading the pack in attracting international talent to their cities.
The report was based on a survey of more than 2,000 cities conducted by the firm.
“While the report focuses on cities with the best design environments, it’s clear that there are also cities that are at the top of the food chain and are experiencing a resurgence in design,” said Spokes Designer and Founder Peter Lasko.
“Our city of Denver has a fantastic downtown, which attracts people from all over the world.”
In the U.S., the number of companies based in Denver is up more than 30 per cent from a year ago, according to the report.
“We’re seeing more international talent coming to Denver,” said Laska.
“I think it’s great for Denver because there’s a lot of innovation, a lot more new ideas, and a lot less stagnation.”
The company also found that Denver is becoming more like other big cities in terms of the types of design projects that are being undertaken.
“In recent years, a significant number of these companies have become large-scale enterprises with more than a dozen design studios and many of these are based in Colorado,” said the report’s co-author and Denver resident Tom T. Hirsch.
“The result is that Denver has become a hotbed of innovative and high-impact design work.”
While Denver is no stranger to design, it is the first city in the nation to be recognized for this kind of work in architecture,” said Hirsch, who is based in Vancouver, Canada.
