A new toy designer from toy design firm Toy Designers will become the first woman to be selected as the first female designer in the United States
Toy Design’s team of female designers have been chosen to lead the design team for the upcoming $3 billion toy market in the US.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by CEO, Kim Lee, in a statement announcing the selection.
Lee, who is a product marketing specialist for Toy Design, will be tasked with spearheading Toy Design America’s efforts to support the launch of the $3-billion toy market.
The announcement comes as the industry struggles to find a strong, consistent female voice to guide the design teams of major companies.
In the past, women have often served as the face of toy design and marketing, while also being a product or service specialist.
The fact that Lee is the first to be chosen as a female designer has many designers asking what the company is missing and why the current design teams are not diverse enough.
Lee said in her announcement that Toy Design will not be the only company to make a woman as the next design leader, citing other companies as well.
The company said that Lee will serve as the vice president of Toy DesignAmerica, a nonprofit group dedicated to bringing women into the design and product industries.
“It is our hope that this is a first step toward creating a more inclusive and empowering space for women to join the ranks of designers, product managers, marketers and business executives,” Lee said in the announcement.
Toy Design’s hiring will mark the first time in the history of the company that a woman will serve on its team.
Lee has worked as a product development manager for nearly four decades.
Lee added that the move will allow her to better communicate Toy DesignUSA’s vision to its employees.
She said the organization hopes that it can bring a new voice to the industry by encouraging women to take on roles outside of their homes.
“By partnering with Toy Design to build a team of designers that will make Toy Design a leader in toy design, we hope to create a stronger, more diverse and inclusive space for designers to work and create,” Lee added.
Toys that will be featured in the toy market include Barbie, Winnie the Pooh, Barbie the Dinosaur, The Incredibles, My Little Pony and many more.
